maybe a kips valve inspection?

Post by 2001kdx »

When i try to warm my bike up, with or without the choke, i can only use about a quarter of the rpm's. I must run up and down my neighbors driveway, to get into 4th or 5th gear, for the bike to finally open up. when i first got the bike, i never had this problem. what can i do?

A KDX will not be fully warmed up for 10 minutes or so. It will not give you full throttle response until that time. Expect and plan for it.

First response would be jetting, but your KIPS could be spoo'd shut until warmed so that it can move. But keep in mind that the KIPS doesn't kick in until about 6K. When is the last time you cleaned your air filter?

What 2 stroke oil do you run?

Jetting aside, I have to spend much more time warming up my bike until I feel it is ready to go -- including long straight sections. Of course, it could be that others don't bother much with warm ups.

Even with my extended warm up routine, the 220 doesn't hit its stride in its higher rpms until a couple miles into the single track. Then all of a sudden I get much better throttle response all over the power band. That's when I should set the A/S, but by then everyone I'm following is pinned and I'm concentrating on staying with them as best I can.

If your bike isn't jetted properly it will take longer to warm up.
