Throttle

Post by tim »

Is there any way to tighten the throttle so it is not so touchy that will not make it stick?

The throttle is not "tightenable". The only way to make it less touchy is with a stiffer spring under the cap. I'm not aware of anyone that has done that or wanted to do that. Touchy is good. It means it is free.

Yea but I got into a bumpy and slik as ice trying to go easy BUT little bit of throttle and it will slip right out from under ya. And it is very hard to pick it back up in boots on that kind of stuff needless to say I ended up just as muddy as the ground.

you could try different needle tapers, taller gearing, flywheel weights. Or you could try basically doing the opposite of what every body else is doing in their quest to increase throttle response.

I used to ride icey roads with my wife, her on a XR200. There is a pic of that in my gallery. I could not keep up with her. She thought it was a little slippery, I thought it was time to go home.

Too bad the throttle doesn't have a variable cam built in.

At $100, that's quite pricey.

If some KDX riders think that their throttles are a little touchy (and I do, cux I'm suckie), imagine if we were riding KXs or KTMs.

I only had problems riding on ice and slippery snotty slush covered rocks when I was riding in...ice and slippery snot, well you get the pic. I had to stop doing that. I too would fall, usually while going very slow or even stopped. It is HARD riding conditions! The tires just aren't made for that. Maybe some type of trials tires would bite better.

'Know a kid who got a new 200xc that he thought was too zippy in the woods. He's bought the G2 kit. He stuck with the most highly-cammed of the three cams - he keeps it on all the time (doesn't use the other two cams). 'Says it's makes the throttle less sensitive because it spreads like the 1st 1/3 throttle over more distance. The last 2/3s of the throttle roll quicker but I guess it doesn't matter as much because he's already in the bike's power band. He also bought a Steahly (spelling?) flywheel weight and says that it makes the bike more fun to ride.

Kinda defeating what you are trying to do ain't ya?
A cam is going to ramp up the throttle instead of making it equally progressive.

I have a stock replacement tube and there is no cam operation at all.

See this is what makes this site so great you ask any question and you get so much feed back THAN YOU ALL I don't know what to do maybe just learn to be a better rider

I was hoping there was a stiffer spring but the more I think about it that would cause me to have a sore right wrist, hand, and arm

A cam will 'ramp up the throttle'?

You could say that.

Or, it makes the throttle '...less sensitive because it spreads like the 1st 1/3 throttle over more distance. The last 2/3s of the throttle roll quicker...'?

You could say that, too.

Both are pretty much definitions of a cam operated throttle.

You're simply changing the rate of slide lift compared to throttle twist. The point is to make it NOT equally progressive.
