How bigga rear tire for the 220R?

My rear tire shoulda been changed two months ago. Now the knobbies are down to 1/4".

I'll be ordering a Maxxis Desert IT to replace it (and putting a Maxxis Cross SI in the front because that's what's hanging in my garage).

My current tire is a 110-100-18. They say the taller sidewall makes up for the stiffer sidewall of the Maxxis line.

Given my RB-carb-Boysen-squish modded motor and my 13/50 sprockets, and that I ride way more sand wash than I'd like, what is the largest rear tire you'd put on the back of my bike?

I'm more concerned with width than height...

110-110? 110-120?

And while we're at it, where's the best price on Maxxis? I keep seeing $65+, but I recall seeing them in the $50s before.

Thanks,

Rick

I have run a 120 100 didn't notice much traction difference but deffinetly took power. It also would rub my fernder on drop offs & jumps I went back to my maxxis maxcross IT I like this allot . But I ride allot of rocks, loose shale & mud. I pay around $60 for tire.

What about getting a wider tire? 110 or 120?

Where do you get Maxxis Dez ITs for $60? My local KTM shop has them for $65. The internet sites have them for $65 to $70.

americanmototire.com has them for $50 - $55 + shipping based on your location. I had good luck with this place -- but I've only bought 1 set from them so far.

Sorry, can't help with the other question. I'm running 110/100.

The folks say that the Maxxis Cross should not be confused with the Maxxis Desert IT. Completely different tire.

They've got both tires listed: M7304/M7305 Maxxcross IT and Maxxcross Desert IT. Is the Desert IT not what you're looking for?

Yep Desert IT

$50 is the best price and no shipping, although they do charge 7.9% sales tax (out of state, even).
