Sprocket size...
Ok guys, say i put a SMALLER rear sprocket on...this would kill my bottom end power i know, and would give me more top speed. What i want to know is, off the line, will a smaller sprocket make a SLOWER? meaning, will i be able to get to speed very fast, or will this thing be like a Semi-Transport truck and take a 1/4 mile to get up there, but once it does it flys?
Just wondering if i can use this method do killa 250 CR in a race (rolling starts)

What's on there now?
Allot of guys will put a 47 on the rear and switch between a 12 and 13 tooth counter sprocket on the front. 1 tooth difference equals 3 teeth on the rear.

Good luck trying to find those sprocket sizes. Stock front is a 13T.
The only sizes I have seen for a KDX is 47-50

I don't think a 14T will fit.

I honestly don't know why you would want to go over 75 mph. What is the point?
Your not going to beat a CR250, your not going to get to speed faster with a smaller sprocket.... The bike will be pretty much useless as it's intended purpose. I think you need to look for a different bike.

I also don't think a 14 will fit. 1995 and up KDX uses the same rear sprocket as the KX from forever ago to now. JT makes them as small as 43T. Someone may make an even smaller rear?
But, as Inda asked....Why? I can see running a 13/45 combo if you were trying to dual sport the KDX with mostly street with a little forest road stuff.

I run a 12T CS & Stock RS (47?)
Smaller CS will give quicker acceleration w/a little loss of top-end. I can run a gear higher in the tight & lug much better with this set-up. Top-end is not an issue for me

Re: Sprocket size...
Race the truck. If you want to beat the CR, start 20 feet behind him, get going as fast as you can, go by him, ask him to start when you're 20 feet past him and make the finsh line at 100 yards. It might be close.motorhed220 wrote: will this thing be like a Semi-Transport truck and take a 1/4 mile to get up there, but once it does it flys?

lol, well i guess a CR 250 is shooting high eh? all i want is the ability to go screaming down the road at the fastest possible speed that this bike is capable of. Thats all lol...and as for why...well because i Can, and because i want to go against the grain and make a bike do something it wasnt built to do, kinda like a Monster Garadge thing eh? lol

I think I have seen this before regarding 12T CS on a 220. Is it okay?
See.... I was under the impression that a smaller than stock (13) sprocket would cause more wear on the shaft etc. So I put on a 50T rear to gear down but it appears to wear quickly on the ole' chain guide. i.e. I posted a week or two ago about my Fredette guide wearing on my chain. ( I took it apart and it had worn down through the back end, closest to the rear sprocket into the bolt [2] that holds the lower block in place. ) I put the stock chain guide back on.
So now I am thinking that when I replace the drivetrain this winter I should go 12-47. No?
BTW; I think instead of putting the Fredette guide on with the two spacers I will try and put the outer plastic face of the stocker on first then the outer (Fredette) plate on flush to the mount on the swingarm. That will let the chain rub on something plastic instead of a hunk of aluminum. Might have to break out the dremmel and do a little custom fab.
