I have a 1991 kdx200
i want to change the spring stiifer i can go with
xr400 0.38kg springs 520mm length
or modern 95-05 kdx200 0.35 kg springs 470mm length
just wonder if i go with the xr springs because they are 520mm long instead of the kdx 470mm long spring when the xr springs compress will i end up with coil bind has anyone here had any problems like this.

The 15 mm of spacer really just fills the space and provides very little preload. Of course you can adjust preload until you get the right feel but when I preloaded the springs it was brutal and I couldn't ride the thing. The XR springs are shorter than stock KDX springs a far as I know.

It is my understanding that the springs are longer and require much less spacer. This is one of the reasons that they are more desireable over just heavier springs designed for replacement in the KDX.
This should make them plusher and stiffer at the same time. More stroke area before bind.

My XR springs were much longer than the KDX springs. This allowed me to remove the gitanic metal preload spacer Kawaski puts in, and run a smaller one I made from PVC. The forks worked loads better with the stiffer springs. A lot less nose dive on down hills while braking, handled whoops a lot better too. Still, putting KX forks on was a much bigger difference.
