KDX hop ups

Post by motofox2006 »

Hi guys I have a 1991 KDX with an FMF fatty pipe with modified airbox lid and larger rear sprocket.

The bike came with these mods so i didnt really have to pay for them.

Is there any other mods i can do that are inexpensive that i havn't already done.

Thanx guys

do a search for:
RB carb mod
RB head mod
Mototasinari V-Force 3 reeds
RB carb mod and the SSS
KX fork swap and general suspension set-up and balance

Inexpensive is a very subjective term when it comes to dirt bikes.

This will get you hours of info to ponder of the best power gains to be had on a KDX as well as a great suspension

I would start with getting your jetting right first. Try a CEL needle in that carb.

Do a search on CEL

And then get the suspension right for you. No amount of hop-ups are going to be that useful if your suspension can't handle it. As a matter of fact they can be down right dangerous...

Everything is weight dependent..... Stock 95 and up KDX springs are usually swapped in the E models for better suspension up front.

Set your sag and adjust the clickers (rebound and compression) in the rear.

When you ready to start spending some money.... Brad suggestions are dead on.

My 89 200 is pretty well set out with what works for a E series KDX. Take a look at it here: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=465 You can get a lot out of the bike if your willing to spend some time dialing it in. With some jetting work (CGK needle for the stock E series (89-95 KDX) carby) and respringing the front end you'll truly have a different bike. After that the sky is the limit as far as upgrades go. KX front end and RB mods are a good investment with lots of return. Oh and welcome to the site!

m0ries the man to ask.... CGK needle is correct, I was going from memory... and it's apparent that I accessed the wrong piece of grey matter.
