Yeah, I will. I haven't actually sold the KDX or KX yet, you know. I'm giving the KTM 2 weeks and then I'll decide what I'm keeping and what I'm selling.

I cleaned up the KDX today, put a new fender on, took the WER off, etc. Then I rode it around a little bit and A/B'ed it with the KTM once more. KDX pulls off the bottom better and it's all-around no slouch. If I rode actual genuine woods/trails instead of MX tracks, sandwashes, and jeep trails, I don't think I'd be switching.

I'm sure you guys are just sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for an update

I've ridden the KTM 2x at the MX track and a couple of times here around the house. The thing absolutely rips. However, I'm having trouble cutting ties with the Kawasakis! I mean, my dead-reliable, been-everywhere, done-that KDX is sitting out on the highway with a big FOR SALE sign on it. I put a new Acerbis DHH on it, re-installed the handguards, put a new fender on it, shined and cleaned everything. It looks sharp. I'm asking $1400, would be happy with $1200 and would probably take $1000 for it but, I dunno...the bike's worth that much to ME, ya know? I know the jetting, know the engine, know how far I can go on a tank of gas, know everything about it.

The KX is the same deal. I'm faster on the KTM, no question, but I'm TOO fast! It's obvious that I'm going to have to learn to scrub speed on the jumps because I'm over-jumping the tabletops by 10-20' and that's AFTER letting off on the approach. I'm 44- do I need to be going that fast? I'm going into corners so much faster that my lines don't work anymore. Our track is challenging and perfect for the 125 but too tight for a bigger bike. Plus, the KTM is about 1" taller than the KX and I cannot touch both feet at the same time. That means I'll have to get it lowered and that means $$$$$. The KX is a lot the same deal as the KDX- I know it, I'm comfortable with it.

Neither of these bikes is a good seller right now, so I'm going to have to practically give them away to get them sold. The '04 KTM, on the other hand, IS a decent seller and I'm pretty sure I could get my money back on it, or better (I'm closer to CO than the bike originally was). I think I'm going to give the KDX 2 weeks to sell and if it doesn't, I'm going to pull it and sell the KTM instead.

Anyone else ever "been there, done that?"

Hey NM,

I know a kid looking for a 125, he's in Castle Rock, north of the springs and south of denver. Maybe if you are heeaded up this way it would work. send me a PM with info on it and the price if you want me to let him know.

We've already gone up $100. He offered $900 and I said I'd buy the bike from myself for $900. After 20 minutes of talking he said he'd go $1000 IF his wife approved (duh-duh-duh...<- Theme from "Jaws"). I told him I'd think about it for a day or so. He's only here in the area until Friday. Hopefully someone will drive by and grab it for $1400 and that'll be that.

I'd just tell him you had prepared for negotiating in a $200 range but that is just a little too low. Tell him since he's right there, right now that you will take $1100 but no less and act like you mean it.

Bargaining aside, what do you think of $1100 for the bike? If it were you, would you be happy or would you hold on to it?

Personally... I'd keep it. Knowing the bike.... is worth alot in my book. I about killed myself on my KTM for the reasons you mentioned and the KDX is everything the KTM is not. To me...riding is about having fun... not pressing the fold.

Your on target, Inda, precisely why I'm looking for a KDX. Before I bought my current bike I was literally salivating at the prospect of buying an RM250 for a great price. It would have been too much; not that I couldn't ride it but I'd constantly be crossing that line between thrill and terror, wouldn't get the full enjoyment of riding, and would have great difficulty puttering around with my son (at least at first, he's wide open these days). Granted, my current bike is a bit at the other extreme (actually, the suspension on the TTR is sub par but the engine, uncorked and rejetted, isn't really that bad for the woods). Realizing that the TTR was soon enough not going to be enough, having ridden some "hot" bikes lately, I got the opportunity to ride a KDX and then KNEW it was the a great "blend" of what I needed.

Having stated all of this, man, it would a thrill to catch a ride on a KTM like NM's got, just once!!

I got to a fair number of Enduros each year with my KDX. It always surprises me how many people come up and say " I used to have one of those... Great Bike!....Wish I had still had it....etc."
I'm in a similar situation, or at least getting there.
I plan to buy a Gasser soon, maybe a KTM, but I guess I'll keep the KDX 220 with KX forks, the KX125 with KDX forks, and the KX100 for the heck of it. They don't owe me anything and I won't get but pennies on the dollar for what I've got in them.

The way my KDX is now, I have no desire to have a KTM any time soon. With the mods that have been done, the BIGGEST being the Front End Conversion, than RBD'd with the other goodies. The bike is plenty Fast & Torquey & will go up just about any hill I point her at with or without me on the saddle

I would keep it at that price. Everybodies situation is different. Ask yourself the following:

Do you need the money? Can you afford to keep it? Do you have room for the bike or a good place to store it if your not riding it? Is it going to be worth less in a few months, six months, a year if you keep it? Are you on the fence about how well the KTM is going to work for you? Is the significant other going to give you grief to no end if you don't sell it?

I really don't want you to post answers to these questions. Just question for thought. As I said, I would keep it. But, I would have kept my KDX, if we could have waited a year or so to get a new vehicle. I really miss the KDX for riding with the kid and newbe ST rides.

Actually, my wife told me I should keep it. She gave me pretty much the same points as you did. She did say to take no less than $1200 for it, period.

The first time I read this I thought...I don't remember him saying he was wanting to get ride of his wife, and how does the Green Hornet know his wife rocks.

Then I re-read it and realized that it said "KEEP IT" not "KEEP HER".

My KDX is home and resting comfortably in the garage. We had a little chat about our separation and agreed that it was good for both of us. We also agreed to have an open relationship from here on out. I can ride other bikes and other people can ride the KDX. We're comfortable with that. So, after reaching this agreement, we went for a little ride and it was so much fun that we'll do it again tomorrow. Tomorrow's ride might be downright dirty (seeing as it's pouring rain right now).

I did put the KX125 up on ebay, though. $30 listing fee!!! Ouch.
