So has anyone heard of a KDX completing the Tour of Idaho?

I know of one guy that did it on a KTM 300XCW with a 7.8 gal tank. There are some nearly 200 mile days in there. You could theoretically make it on a KDX, add the largest tank you can get and fab up some roto pack racks for fuel.

I have no idea what fuel mileage I get. Swap in the biggest tank I see available @ 3.6 gallons, what’s a good guess on range?
The fuel bags seem very popular. Especially the 2g size.

This is where the Lectron or SmarCarb would be handy - a 20-30 % increase in mileage would he handy! I like the Rotopaks idea if you can do some subframe bracing. The other issues is mixing fuel. I had a 97CR500 plated for the street. Mixing fuel really annoyed the heck out of me. The new Oil Injection bikes would be handy for those hankering to put more serious miles on the two smokes.......

3.6 gal tank will probably get you in the 80 mile range depending on how you ride. I can get 50 on a full tank on the hybrid (which is only a 2.1 gal KX tank) and thats using the fumes too.

So I have this radical idea of designing a side plate that is actually like a rotopak. It would look like a regular side plate but instead of being a piece of flimsy plastic it would hold some volume of fuel. Obviously it would only work on the driveline side! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

That'd be like the rear tanks on the KTM690 I think it is, or the new Rieju 500 ADV bike. Acerbis makes an aux tank that mounts to the front numberplate area, as well as one that mounts to the handlebar crossbar. Too bad no one makes an extended tank like the one for the KLR650 where the shrouds actually hold fuel. Rotopacks would be nice to help keep the weight low.

Giant Loop makes bags for fuel. The work well for me.

The GL bags do seem like a proper solution. See them in a lot of Tour of Idaho videos.
