Looking for some input from some die-hard KDX'ers. I would like to know what pre mix oil an ratio you have had the best results with. I was going to start using Bel ray H1R 50:1 but heard that might be a poor choice due to gumming up the KIPS, bad smell and possibly contributing to the destruction of the engine. I want to use what you guys stand by for your KDX. I was told by one reputable member that Maxxima was some good stuff. Any input greatly appreciated. I have not owned a 2 stroke in years and seem to have fallen far behind on what works. Summonzing the great ones out there :prayer: I guess it would have been better to make this Q a poll but I dont know the different brands of pre mix oil on the market. Duh.. :roll:

A fellow KDX rider, who has been riding them for over 20 years, worked very closely with Silkolene to develop a 2-stroke pre-mix that produced the least amount of smoke. It's Silkolene ProComp 2+. It's the only thing he'll use besides the BelRay H1R (if he's in a pinch). His/my ratio is 40:1, 91 octane pump gas, jetted for 6-12,000'. Other guys will give you their opinions, but as for me, I'll stick with what this Zen KDX Master friend of mine says.

From personal experience... I can say BelRay H1R oil will gum up your power valves badly and you will be tearing them down to clean. (Stay Away!)

Also, from personal experience, I can say that having clean powervalves and reduced wear is the number one reason in choosing your 2 stroke oil. Everyone has their favorite of course but I use Amsoil 2 stroke oil. It was developed for the least amount of wear and specifically... clean power valves.

You do the research and decide from there.

What do you think of Spectro? I am using the 321s (synthetic) 32:1

I am not against switching if I have to. Is it okay to go from one brand to another. This friend of mine was out of gas the other day and I offered to give him some of mine. (he is new to bikes and I had never heard this before) He says No way! I was told not to switch it up! What is up with that? He was totally afraid that he would blow his engine if he used anything other than what he had been using. So he made it about 10 miles and ran out of petrol. We were at the top of the Mt. so he put it on reserve, road the uphills and flats and killed the engine on the down hills.
I stayed behind him, swearing that I would never ride with this moron again.

Your right... your buddy is a moron if he wouldn't take your fuel. It's fine to use different premix in a pinch but try to stick to what you run.

Have never used Spectro... but have a buddy who does and he hasn't had any problems that I'm aware of.

Would it be ok to run synthetic 2t oil in an old bike as mine or it would'nt change a thing ? I'm currently running 20:1 on yamalube. :rolleyes:

20:1 is a little thick I think.... :hmm:

Try backing her off to 32:1 to start with....

I am running Yamalube 2R on 32:1 with light spooge results, and slightly oily and dark plugs. After a long ride, I can take off the airboot on the intake side of the carb and see a small purple oily pool of oil by the pilot jet hole on the bottom. I changed reeds and found a small purple oil pool sitting in the lowe left corner of the reed port in the cylinder casting. It is not air filter oil, its the 2R.

I will try 40:1 Yamalube 2R and see what happens with the oil pooling and spark plug. I may have to go leaner on the pilot and main one step to keep the motor happy, but I will save a few pennies on using less oil!!

Bel ray H1R 50:1
Bel-ray H1R is recommended on the container to be run at 32:1. If you run it any thinner than 40:1 you're asking for trouble. I've run H1R at 40:1 and had pretty good luck with it. My dad has run Bel-ray MC1 at 50:1 (what it says on the bottle) for years and seems to like it.

I've heard good things about the Silkolene, Maxxima, and Mobile 1 MX2T. I would probably start with one of those. If the bottle recommends 32:1, you would be safe running anywhere from 32:1 to 40:1. If the bottle says 50:1 I would recommend running that (not all oils are the same, obviously).

You can use other gas mixed with yours if you're in a pinch, but it's best to have a completely empty tank when switching to a different brand (i.e. mixing different brands of oil in a single tank isn't the best thing to do on a regular basis). FWIW.

Same. I get a little spooge, but my engines are always nice and clean on tear-down. I'm pretty happy with Yamalube, although this Silkolene sounds interesting.

I have been using Golden Spectro Synthetic for over 20 yrs. my 85 200 I used @ 32:1, my 05 220 I use @ 40:1

I guess I shoulda stated get the Interceptor Amsoil.... it is the best oil for the KDX and the KIPS. Mixed at 50:1

I once was mixing at 40:1 and had some spoo.... now she's clean.

I just started using Torco GP-7 at a 44:1 ratio. It seems to work a lot beter than crappy oil I was using before. It says smokeless technology. Well, it's not smoke-LESS. It still smokes but not near as bad.

Parker, Stay away from non-synthetics. I'm not sure what that Torco is, but "GP" or a lot of high-performance racing oils have quite a bit of castor in them. That is not the oil you want in your KDX unless your going to be WOT full time. That being said, oils containing castor will produce slightly more top-end power as the film strength will increase compression. Down side is they will gum everything up in lower-rpm applications...
