95 KDX 200 hard to start, runs great

Post by dneubaue@hotmail.com »

I was given a 95 KDX 200 that had been sitting a while, years. I took the carb apart cleaned it, cleaned the tank, put fresh gas in and it won't start unless I use starting fluid. Once started runs great no bog, etc. What do I need to look for when I take it back apart? I am pretty sure the float is set too high would that do it? If that is the likely candidate what else should I look at while I am in there?

Thanks!

Good spot to start is with the carb as you already have. However, don't even try to clean the pilot jet. Just buy a brand new genuine Keihin pilot jet. Second, set your float height to 18mm. Probably also wouldn't hurt installing a new genuine needle valve with your float. Also make sure you have a clean air filter and a fresh NGK BR8ES plug. Try those things and we'll have to dig deeper from there if those measures don't fix the issue.

Sometimes when a bike sits for years there are some normal, and weird, things that can go bad. Let us know how it goes and we'll help get you through it.
