‘96 KDX 200 with no title history! Need help titling in ohio

Post by Willpyrus »

Hi! I am will! I bought a ‘96 kdx 200 a little while ago. Now looking to get it OHV titled since its required to get registration and stickers for state parks. Looked up the VIN on both NVMTIS and the BMV websites with no records found. Do you think the original owner probably never got it titled from the bmv and just ran with the MCO?

My KDX came with an MCO. Manufacturer Certificate of Origin. No title. Some states allow off road bikes to be titled, some don't. You will need a kit to make it street legal ie. blinkers, brake light, license plate, horn ect.
Edit: Mine is a 2003 KDX 220.

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

There was no title for my 02 when I bought it used, just a bill of sale. I don't know if it was just Florida or all states but the lady at the DMV said prior to 02 there were no titles. Mine was built in 01 so she let me slip through. If it was an 03 I would've been out of luck.
I had to take it to a police station and have an officer verify the vin in person and sign a form. Then the DMV issued me the title and OHV sticker so I could ride county and state parks without issue.

What state are you in? Every state has their own regulations as to what is titled and what can be titled. There is a process you can go through to get a title on any bike depending on where you're at. Here in AZ all motorcycles must be titled regardless of year or type even if dirt only.

Look up your state. Some do not title off-road vehicles.
