Shift shaft bottoming out on engine cover! Help!

Post by Ecarta »

Ok has anyone ever run into thus problem.

Trying to install my engine cover on this rebuild. But the shift shaft is bottoming out on the engine cover itself (see pic).

I triple checked the orientation of that washer/collar. And it's in the proper position and everything. But the ONLY way the engine cover will install is by removing it. But that also seems wrong.

Am I missing something here?????

Are you getting the collar seated in the shifting pawl fully?

At first I didn't understand what you meant....but after sleeping on it I put fresh eyes on it. And yes you are correct. Ya have to slide that plate back so the collar fits inside of it.

Thank you SS109!

I see that you've already figured it out, but I had this problem once too, and it was also the collar that was out of place.

Yup. How do you think I knew to suggest making sure it was seated?

I did the same thing last year. Took me about 10min to figure out. Important thing is you took the time to ask and didn't try to force it.
