Fellow KDXers:
Thanks to everyone's help so far and responding to my questions, much appreciated!
Anyway, I will be soon be starting the bottom end rebuild of my 2004 KDX200. I am sufficiently confident in doing this...Except for reassembling the transmission. I kept both gear clusters together and set them aside during teardown.
BUT...
How do I confirm all gears can move and shift correctly before the cases are gasketed together? How do I check neutral? Any tips/tricks? I have the service manual but it often confuses me more than helping!
Help!
How to check transmission before cases are together???

You can check it first by installing all the parts in one side of the case halves. You have to support the main & counter shaft just right or they will bind. While turning over, you can move the shift barrel & shift gears. You Tube may be of some help.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
