Congratulations. I think you are very close to "just paying someone and getting it over with". I have driven myself into the ground several times continuing to dicker with stuff. We all do it. :-)

Center punch what's left, drill and tap it, use a slide hammer. Done. That's probably exactly what the machine shop would do anyways.
