Speedometer option for street legal KDX...

Post by NoBs »

Easy to dismiss this but..... how about a cellphone with a speedometer/trip combo app on the handlebars ? It's " affixed " to the bike. Not exactly conventional but.,, only thing I can think off off the top of my head is that it would be easy to rest the mileage, a no no in a car, not sure how it reads for a bike. Hey, it's winter...

I think lots of adventure bikes do just that. My buddy has a gps thingy that does everything on his handlebars.

Agreed.... but is is legal instead of a bolt on speedometer ? I have no idea what the regs would be for a bike in a state like mine ( Pa. ) That would solve one issue for legalizing the bike for the highway in a hurry.. Probably be more accurate than a conventional speedometer as well..

Pennsylvania requires a non-resettable odometer for inspection - so a cell phone is a no go... Trailtech is what I have on my plated KDX.

Ahh. My state (WA) does not require speedo.
My bike came with the Trail Tech Endurance.
You could go that route. It uses a magnet and tire size, like a bicycle. Worked fine when it worked but did not seem to like the abuse I give my bike, so I took it off.
I’d be happy to send it to you if you want to try it.
But you’d need to upgrade to PM me your info.

Each state has its own requirements. Look up the laws for your state.

I seriously doubt a smart phone is going to be OK for any legal device as an odometer or speedometer.
