Anyone found a one-piece handlebar brace for 1-1/8" bars?

Post by MoonStomper »

The FRP Bar Brace is only designed for 7/8" bars - glad I asked Jeff before ordering!

I'm running Pro Taper Contour CR High bars with their clamps and OEM rubber cones. I'll probably try the Ride Engineering polyurethane cones if/when I finally destroy these. Would like to stiffen things up a bit more with a one-piece top brace if I can find one that will fit my '03 OEM forks. Not really interested in crossing over to USDs anytime soon.

I hear that a KX125 clamp will work, but that appears to be for 7/8" bars also. Tempted to machine out the FRPs to 1-1/8 and cross my fingers.
Any ideas?

Don't do that to an FRP clamp, not enough there to gnaw at.

Look at aftermarket, but make sure on width. I have a Pro Circuit one, so they are out there.

You can get one from Scotts. I know I've owned three setups for a Scotts damper and all had a one piece top. Here's the one they list for the KDX... https://www.scottsonline.com/Stabilizer ... ID=1150311

You might be able to find some urethane bushings to replace the rubber ones as well.

If you want even stiffer they have this triple clamp/bar mount setup but it isn't cheap... https://www.scottsonline.com/Product_Pu ... I_ID=12049

For a totally solid mount, couldn't a person get a pair of aluminum cones machined up to the same dimension as the OEM rubber ones? Anyone know of a problem with this approach?

Actually you can buy the aluminum cones from RockymountATV/MC. I have them and am pleased. They do pass along more vibration to the bars but I don’t find that a problem.

Thanks guys! I’ve got new rubber cones in right now. Would probably try the urethane ones next. Probably won’t go with the aluminum because I feel like some flexibility there protects the bars and I hit a lot of trees.

That Scott’s piece looks like the ticket!
