I have a '96 200. I'm 5' 6" and don't worry about lowering links. If I have to paddle, I just jump off. I don't like shaving the seat because it changes the seat to bars ratio and I feel like I'm riding a chopper. Shave the rear of the seat a little and trim the sides, but leave the front of the seat alone. Mostly, I just keep my feet on the pegs, clamp it between my knees, and give it gas.

Mine has overheated a few times when going up long, steep, 2nd gear WOT hills. I'm talking about WOT for 5 minutes or so. No big deal.

Ryan, where do you live? I have a lowered '93 I'd sell, but sounds like you'll be better off with this one unless it's a rag.

I'm curious as to how the countershaft broke. That may indicate poor overall maintenance in which case $1000 is no bargain.

I'll sell ya my very well maintained '96 for $1500. Maybe....

My $.02:

Any bike you buy is likely going to need at the very least a lot of work.

$1000 is not a BAD deal for a rolling/functional/working bike..imo.

The output shaft breaking..THAT is suspicious. Maybe it was the shift shaft? Or maybe the output shaft stripped? That's not the same as 'breaking'.

Any time the bottom end is taken apart there is the chance of errors on reassy. Some bikes, you push a seal in a bit too far...you're screwed...

Having receipts is better than not having them...but all sorts of 'official' shops are less than worthless, so it doesn't mean a whole lot.

If you're expecting a problem free bike that's ten years old for $1000, change your expectations.

If that's what you get? GREAT!!

Take a look at it. Like it? Buy it.

He told me the reason he is selling both is because he wants to get a 2001 kdx200 to have a newer bike. My friend can just get enough to get the bike so $1500 is too much.
He'd better have some $$$ on tap for repair because as noted, every used bike will need _something_. My bike doesn't need a thing, but that's me. Carver or Jafo or Indy would take 1 look at it and start throwing new plastic on, new this, new that, RB this, RB that, BBR the other. Even on my excellent KX125, the first thing I did was tear it down to check the piston- gasket = $$$, piston/rings = $$$, etc.

Anyway...I ain't gonna deliver to you!

I have been to Sarasota! Back in the early 70's.

Very good point.

If $1000 taps him out...he's going to be sorry when he can't ride it 'cuz it's busted...or it's out of gas!!
