99 Miles on a Tank of Fuel
Went for a ride up on the Siskiyous then down into California yesterday all on logging roads. Nice weather in the upper 50's with NO smoke from the wildfires around here. Anyway on the way back home I had to backtrack 10 miles due to a fallen tree across the road, that's when I got nervous about running out of fuel. Short shifted it the 25 miles home and didn't even need reserve. I did switch over in the last couple of miles to avoid going lean but overall, the KDX got close to 40 miles per gallon, average speed 4th gear, with 6ea.- 3000' elevation changes. Bike ran awesome all day, tweaked the air screw a 1/4 at 6500' then back again down in the canyons. I really like the Air Striker carb on this bike.

That's great to hear! After adjusting the float to 18mm and jetting my Air Striker, my 220 gets excellent fuel economy. I keep track in engine run time hours rather than mileage but at 4 hours the fuel is just below the screws that mount the tank. Almost touching the protruded plastic looking down in there. That's a lot of gas left! It easily goes 5 hours with a mix of trail and open riding.

Wow, I was out 6 hours but made several stops so maybe 4hrs engine run time. I'll have to check for overflow though the floats, they are set below stock specs but it will piss when leaned way over.
Gauging the fuel in these black tanks is almost impossible. Anyone have a trick to get an accurate reading out on the trail?

That's good gas mileage!
Before anyone says it, DON'T strike a match to get some light down into the tank.
