My KDX is bouncin' around like a pogo stick!

Post by ballsymcgee »

Well, in the time Ive been working on her, the rear shock has gone out. C'est la vie! Anyone Do any rear shock work on the 95-06 KDX 200's? I dont know where to start with this. Get a new one entirely? Get a rebuild kit? Id love to hear your guys' inputs! Thank you!

Hi. How long has it been since the oil was changed and shock charged with nitrogen? If it has not been changed or the shock serviced in a long time, then it needs the oil changed at the very least.

I offer a shock rebuild kit for the 1989 and newer full-sized KDX's. Here's a link:

There are alot of very good videos on youtube on how to properly service your shock, You can either fill your bladder your self or your nearest cycle shop might fill it for you at a small price I bought my nitrogen tank and gauges off Ebay both were under 175.00 if you rebuild just 1 shock its paid for it self like anything you do in life you half to do it for the first time to get started in the learning process If possible if you know someone that has done this before it would be a huge help as it can be dangerous if you do this incorrectly.

As stated lots of videos on rebuilding they kyb shock, I would say the only thing that's not covered in enough detail is oil type and viscosity, worth learning about before choosing

I encourage everyone to watch the Race Tech videos on youtube. Though it is for a 1993 Honda, it also mentions KYB areas.

For oil, no need to overthink it. Use KYB oil, as it came when new.
