93 KDX200 has different final clutch plate?

Post by spyknar »

KDX Riders,
I have a 1993 KDX200 E series and the clutch has this odd ball friction plate that sits in its own groove at the top of the basket. Can anyone explain the "why" for this design? It has a directional pattern and I was wondering if it has a specific orientation that it needs to be installed in? I cannot find a manual that has the info so I am reaching out to the many experts in this channel. Any guidance is appreciated. Also is there a parts channel on KDXRider.net?

Thanks!

That's odd.

No parts section on here.

Hi,

Yes, that 1 different clutch plate is supposed to be there, it usually has to do with being able to find neutral easier as the directional friction plate helps the clutch to slip. Its either for that or to help reduce "Jutter" when the clutch is engaged so in other words it isnt grabby or producing more wear every time the clutch is slipped. Usually that little washer in the basket does that job, so not exactly sure, its one of the two though..

I would install it in the direction the manual shows it.
