KDX200 Clutch Basket - Scratches?

Post by ChucksKDX »

Hello, can anybody tell me what causes these scratches all the way around the clutch basket and is this normal? See pic below.

Thanks,
Chuck

just spitballing, but I shall wildly guess, scratches are from production, poor sanding or finishing technique

when I first read it, I thought something was grinding against it in a circle, but nope

Yeah, same here. I can't think of any way that could happen from the engine running so your assumption sounds right to me.

It's a cast basket, not billet, so someone had to sand / grind the casting parts off.

Mine looked exactly like that last time I had it off, as KDXG mentioned, likely a remnant from their production

Guys, thanks for all the replies. For once, something reassuring in a positive way! It's been battle after battle so far in going through this bike and when I saw this, it was what the heck now? Thanks again,

Chuck

Get a service manual, if you don't already have one.

Those striations are not uncommon.

FROM OP: Thanks; I picked an electronic one up off Ebay and use it with an app on my IPad. Kind of cumbersome, but I was having a hard time finding a hard copy for an '01 at the time.

EDIT: I am not sure about the URL in your pic, but please don't post links for copyright violation manauals on kdxrider. The site wants no involvement in copyright violation concerns. I could not seem to edit out the attachment, so I had to delete your post. Thanks.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to do anything unacceptable. Didn't know I purchased something illegal either. I believe I will question them on how they are able to sell these.

Hey. No problem. The site just wants no concerns about it.

Kawasaki's lawyers have not come to get them. Any KDX printed manual states on about page 2 about do not copy / reproduce. Pretty much every single seller has downloaded it from somewhere else, then is selling it. They aren't even the one that copied it in the first place.
