I picked up my KDX from the dealer today, it was a bit low on oil. I called them, they apologized, but said it would be fine since they only rode it about 15 minutes that way.
The oil doesn’t smell burned, and now everything seems fine.
Thoughts?

Re: Low transmission oil question
When I broke the sight glass out of mine in an enduro and lost all the oil, I had to ride it about 15 miles back to the camp ground without any oil. I figured the engine would be toast so tore it down. To my surprise there was no damage. Of course I replaced bearings, etc. anyway, but the lack of damage was amazing.
Not suggesting you run it low on trans oil, just that your dealer is probably correct. I would read him the riot act still and expect some compensation, maybe some future free service?
BTW, you might consider running the trans oil a little overfilled. Your engine will run just a touch cooler. I typically put in a full liter of ATF when I change fluid. FWIW....

I "work" here. I can not tell you what I am thinking about your dealer.

Re: Low transmission oil question
My question is where the rest of the oil went, did the dealer maybe drain the oil on the side stand leaving the 150ml in and forget to fill it up or is it a bad crank seal, draining the tranny??

Re: Low transmission oil question
Good question. I assumed he had the dealer service the bike or something. Possibly a bad assumption.

The clutch Is the original, probably due to replace anyway.

Re: Low transmission oil question
Okay.. its just a sump so as long as there was enough oil to splash around the tranny for that little time I think it would be fine, I would keep a eye out for any problems/sounds either way if something pops up, unfortunate they forgot to fill it and but they know they are at fault, good thing you checked it before going on a days ride...I am the same a full liter, don't want to start a oil debate on what I run

Re: Low transmission oil question
Ditto on JimmyB’s post. Go ride. Use the oil of your choice. I’m not starting that debate either
