That makes good sense .....for sure compression is a valid replacement for displacement.

I think mr Sarrant gets backed up by this aircraft POV analysis.
Interesting factoid that water cooling is similar to having 10 octane points to play with, in your compression ratio.

I had got good chuckle from their intro. Does this sound like anyone 2T rider you know:

For the last 50+ years there has been virtually no real improvement over the basic air-cooled horizontally opposed engines that power the vast majority of General Aviation aircraft. How such stagnation came to pass is due to a myriad of reasons and frankly we would rather not dwell on the past. We are here to show that advancements are possible.

Goat, thank you for that link. I found it particularly interesting since I am a pilot and fly behind an O-360 engine, the engine used for his discussion. After ready no this I think I’ll have RB modify my 220’s head before he fully retires! I think I’d like that extra compression hp!
Thanks again. Everyone interested in this thread should take the time to read that link.

Nice! Now there’s a fun hobby requiring a bottomless wallet.
Let us know if RB still takes on head work.
I have suspicion I’d buy another bike, if it ever comes to stepping up that far (should have never laid eyes on that 250X) but I like clever..... e.g. our Firebird has a Chevy engine now just because I found a small blower for good deal at the swap meet one day and wanted to see how well it worked.

You know how it goes, one thing leads to another and before you know it you own a $5000 KDX!

BTW, the airplane is a 4-way partnership. Only way to help with the costs.

I HIGHLY recommend the RB head mod. I had him do the head mod on both my 200 and 220. He is still doing all the work for the KDX so if you want it I would Email him now and get it done while you still can.

Good grief. I can see where this is heading. You wouldn’t want a tear down to use perfectly fine stock head (151psi). But don’t want to miss out on RB. So buy another head, right?
I can picture the perfectly good stock head sitting next to the perfectly good stock AS carb (already replaced with RB). Nice matching set over the mantle to go with all the gnomes.
