The piston ring was under sized, he found another ring but width was to wide. He could have used it but would have to remove about a 1mm. The piston was $40.

There may be other sources for parts but I trust this guy, plus I need it done by early March.

It took me 45.18 second to find 6 listings on eBay for a new Technical Touch (KYB from Japan) 44 mm piston band, plus some listings for the o-ring.

A different piston equals different oil flow if he reuses the same shims. It'll all work out, just be aware.

I used to buy all the parts and assemble kits to sell for rebuilding 1989+ KDX shocks. I sold about three every two years, so I quit wasting my money and time.

Is it a must to replace the seal head bushing? I dont have one and am about to send off my susp for a rebuild. Thoughts?

How many hours are on the current seal head? If you don't know or the answer is "A TON", then replace the complete seal head. The bushing is in side the seal head. If you have the stock steel KYB head, you won't be doing JUST the bushing. Rebuilding a KYB steel head would be a nightmare compared to just buying a new one. One might be able to rebuild an All Balls unit. I have not gone cheapy Chinese on the seal head, just stuck with the "known good".

It is absolutely NOT the same shock. There might be a bunch with a 44 mm seal head, but the whole shocks are not the same.

Good luck on the seal head.
