Fork compression stack question

On the fork compression stack there is a shim that looks like a very thin washer, which valve does it sit on? This seems important as if you put the washer/shim on the valve on the right then the solid shims that sit on the valve on the left will sit completely flush. Hope I'm. Explaining myself well enough. Just pulled both of my compression stacks out to remove another 2 shims and noticed this shim/washer was sitting on opposite valves between the right and left fork. My gut feeling tells me this washer/shim should sit on the valve on the left

What is the thickness of the shims?

For 1995 USA KDX200 / KDX220R forks, they have ten shims per side. Did your SR forks only have 5?

Which exact model do you have again? Is it a "G" model 200?

Mine also has 10 per side. Not sure of the thickness of the shims. Mine is the Kdx220. But it's the position of the the washer/shim that I'm confused about

kdxdazz, it is YOUR lucky day! I have JUST disassembled a 2001 KLX300R piston assembly (like 5 minutes ago). The thin washer goes on top of the piston, then the shims. In your picture, the thin washer goes on the piece in the upper right.

In the USA, the shims are 0.10 mm, I think. I once saw 0.10 mm and 0.15 mm shims for sale in that ID and OD. (reverse bend shims)

Great info thankyou. I think I just had an epiphany on why my forks are so harsh. I was trying to work out how the compression stack works. I was examining the fingers on the basket. Just realised it is grooved so it clicks when it slides on but I was sliding the fingers all the way on. Hope the photo shows what I mean. It effectively means that the fingers that slide all they way on has half the room for the oil to pass through. The previous owner has messed with everything so i have no baseline. I was going to drop it down to 3 shims. Not sure if I should leave it at 5. Feedback appreciated as this seems like a very simple mistake to make

This is the rebound stack that hasn't been tampered with and proves my theory. Its all in the details. In regards to that thin shim washer with the big hole in the middle, I think it goes on the left valve as that would make sense to allow for the low speed compression damping, it allows that valve to always be slightly open.

hello back. not sure what you are quoting me on. when i got the bike it had 8 shims per side, previous owner had already removed 2, i removed another 3 which brought it down to 5. at 5 it was still incredibly harsh hence me pulling it apart to remove another 2 until i realized the problem. ive now put it back together and left it at 5
