Idles higher when bike is upright?

Post by TheHabitRabbit »

So my 1994 kdx runs great, except one odd thing is happening at idle. When i have it leaned over on the kickstand the idle decreases almost to a stumble, then when you stand it upright the idle increases. I noticed a very small amount of gas seems to be coming out around the fuel adjustment screw. I just got a rebuild kit, but i was wondering if anyone knew what would make it change the idle just from leaning over like that. I've never heard of this problem and I haven't found any similiar situations online. Any insight is much appreciated!

Yep as already it's the float level. When I connected up my wideband 02 sensor to another bike the AFR changes while going around corners. Check your float level using the clear tube method as this will give a guaranteed accurate result where as just setting the float height is dependent on the condition/twist in the float

How do you guys connect a hose to the bottom of the bowl? Make a custom fitting or something? I always just did the blow into some fuel line and slowly raise the bowl by hand to see where it closes at. I can't remember off hand where the correct position is (maybe level with the flange for the bowl?), but I got the info to do this from a thread on this forum somewhere. I'm sure the method described above will work better, but if you don't know how to connect the hose (like me), that's another option.

I just used a rubber grommet with a hole in it. Had to take the main jet out.

It could be your throttle cable binding and opening the throttle a bit when it’s leaned over. Turn the handlebars when it’s on the stand to check.
