direct replacement carb kdx220

Post by o/d »

Does anyone know if the pwk33 from jetsrus is a direct replacement for oe carb on kdx220?

By direct replacement, I mean uses same throttle cables, in and outlet boots and comes ready to install(less correct jet sizes).

Same question about the pwk35

I am another 220 owner with lean jets, yet still seems rich.

Its runs decent. Just think should be better.
Motor was completely rebuilt.

I've searched. Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked your jet block gasket?

As for your questions, Yes it is a direct replacement. All you have to do for the cable is use the existing cap and slide from your current carb then you don't have to change anything there. Otherwise the cable is the same and just detaches from the slide. Same for the 35. In fact the PWK33 and 35 have the same dimensions for input and output openings. The 36/38/39 are slightly larger. When you say completely rebuilt, bottom end as well?

Thank you! Knowing both the 33 & 35 mm pwk's have same inlet and outlet diameters helps.

I'm guessing both 33 & 35 are also same length.

Trying to wrap my head around why I would have to use old slide.

I figured that is a wear item?

I've checked and replaced jet block gasket.

It ran much better after that. Wasn't really rideable before changing it.

Bike runs decent. Starts easily cold and hot. Doesn't foul plugs.

I've done much work experimenting with jetting.

Currently running 135 aftermarket main jet, 40 pilot jet, 1st clip on stock needle.

I can be wringing a gear out and it just seems a bit soft when shifting to next gear.

Next plan is to measure needle jet bore in carb on vision system at work.

I rebuilt top and bottom end.

Crank trued and welded by millennium. They also welded & re-plated cylinder. Almost all bearings new. Weisco piston.

I did a thread here on the build long time ago.

I've ridden other 200,s briefly.

This is first 220. Perhaps just nature of the beast and I need Ron black magic?

My next question gonna be should I go stock 33 mm or 35 mm lol

Thanks again

You don't have to use the old slide, you just can. 135MJ sounds lean, though I would never use anything but Keihin jets, seen too many clones that weren't truly sized.
Unfortunately RB isn't taking on new work right now.
A lot of guys go to the 35, gives a bit more top end at the expense of some bottom, but the 220 has plenty of bottom to share (sounds like an "old gf" joke lol).

ride report since I said I would.

Got 2 rides in with the new rb carb..
First ride I left it jetted as delivered. Slight stumble off idle.

Played with air screw a bit during yesterday's ride.
As he says, small air screw adjustments makes a big difference.

Bike runs real well. Good power from off idle and up.

Still may play with my oe carb. Saw a difference in float level between my old vs. the new rb carb..

Loving this bike. Got about 200 miles on her since full motor rebuild on new to me bike.

Doesn't beat me up like the drz did.

Ordered a set of v-force reeds. Will see how they work.

Thanks for the input and listening
