Boyseen 607 reed install

Post by Leystone »

2 stroke noob here - never installed reeds before.

Anything to look out for when replacing the OEM and Boyseen reeds?

I've jetted the bike and it runs great now. From what I've read, shouldn't require much jetting changes beyond adjusting the air screw.

I just did them on my bike for the first time. It's really simple. I definitely over thought the whole install

Correct size screwdriver and don’t over torque them. Maybe a tiny bit of blue thread lock too.

DEFINITELY a dab of Loctite. One of those screws getting sucked into the engine would be really bad, really quick.

Ok perfect. Will do the work tomorrow, install some new floats in the carb as those have been wacky since day one.

Any jetting changes necessary? I've read maybe going down one on the pilot and the main..

I've got a KDX 220 and it's running 42 pilot, 145 main with FMF rev pipe and airbox mod.

I would leave the jetting alone until you ride it and see what its like. It should run a little cleaner and start even easier but they shouldn't make a big difference in power or jetting unless your stock reeds are really bad.

Quick question - should I put any RTV between reed block or the rubber intake?

No. It's not needed or advisable. Never use any silicone based sealers on anything that gasoline comes in to contact with.
