kickstarter trouble

My kickstarter only grabs half the time when i kick it over, other times it just kicks right through without any resistance. took the case cover off and looked at the gears but it all looks fine to me, was wandering if it had something to do with the mechanism that pulls the starter gear onto the other gear, any ideas or am i on track?

yea changed it and then tried again and still slips.

Put your kick starter on with the cover off and slowly kick it by hand and watch what slips..

How'd this turn out?
It's been a pretty common problem over the years. Either you will see what's wrong (as KayD) said...or an oil change can take care of it, too (as m0rie said).
It's one or the other.
If oil wasn't it...then what did you see?
