kerosene as a cleaner

I've been using kerosene to clean my chain and sprocket and it does a great job on that.

I was wondering if it could be safely used to clean other parts of the bike (e.g. cases, rims, outside of carb, etc.)

Do you any of you guys use kerosene for cleaning things other than chains?

I've been using Kerosene to clean just about anything whether it's the chain, carb or the insides of an engine - you name it !
Note though that if you use it on any surface that is exposed to the elements you then have to either wash it with water and a mild detergent or wipe it clean with brake/contact cleaner (depending on the surface) - otherwise it will be a dirt magnet [emoji16]

I use it on non-ring chains and as the first step in air filter cleaning.

I use it to clean most everything, even in the parts cleaner as it doesn't grow mold. It does get skanky after a while though.
It's not as strong a solvent as some others and it does leave a bit of an oily film, but in most cases that's OK.
