What’s up guys, I just recently went on a riding trip in a while and I have grown a lot since the last time I rode I am 16 6’2 190 and I was having trouble standing up and riding because the handlebars were to close and I couldn’t really lean forward so every time I hit the gas or went up a hill I was constantly fighting. I was thinking about rox pivoting risers, was wondering what you all thought before I decided to buy them.

Risers can certainly help. My son is 6'1" and used 1.5" risers on his KLX and it made a world of difference. The KDX bars do tend to be low and back so risers can get you a little more room. Coupled with a set of hi bend bars you can probably get them more comfortable standing. Unfortunately, at 16 and already 6'2" your problem is only going to get worse :-)

I am glad you asked. I am 6' 4" tall. I have a newly acquired 2001 KDX220 H model bike.

I rotated my bar mounts 180 degrees for an extra .5" forward positioning.
Then I put on Renthal CRF150R adult bend handlebars.
They are approximately 2.5" taller and .5" farther forward than the stock steel bars.
(I did not use risers which add weight and move the handlebar back toward the rider).
I did buy a motion pro clutch cable because the stock clutch cable was on the short side.

Also I sent my stock KDX seat to Ceet Racing to build a custom tall seat. I ordered it 1 3/4" taller in the front and 1 1/4" taller in the rear.
(I used this with a previously owned 2005 KDX200.)

The result is while sitting the handlebars are 1" taller and 1" farther forward.
And while standing the handlebars are 2 1/2" taller and 1" farther forward.

Big improvement in comfort and riding position. I can ride comfortably for hours sitting.

I can ride for hours comfortably sitting also, I am trying to keep up with the big dogs on the trip Lol and I just can’t do it when I’m sitting down and they are standing up, they all tell me to stand up but I can only stand up for a short period of time when they are the opposite and they barely sit down. If you had pivoting risers couldn’t you just pivot them forward and it wouldn’t bring back the handlebars towards the rider?

Yea the problem getting worse is my fear I figured I would post here before I start looking for a ktm exc model. If I am correct isn’t the kdx not a full size bike?

I know for me the best mod I could do is slimfast and reducing beer consumption. but neither are in my near future.

Bar risers have allowed me to stand comfortably.

You should be able to keep up fine once they wear themselves out and you are still fresh :D. I would try RC highbend bars and potentially fabricating some lower foot pegs to get yourself some more space. A taller seat might not be to bad either it will make the transition from sitting to standing easier.

Thank you for telling the bike. A few of the KDX's have cast in mounts and it is a little different on bar mount results.

A KDX is a full sized bike, just not with a seat high as tall as some.

Look into a taller seat for yourself, plus taller bars and/or risers.

Yes. Pivoting risers would work to raise the bars and bring them farther forward.
7/8" Rox Risers are $80 at rockymountainatvmc.
But with pivoting risers the odometer will no longer clamp to the handlebar mount. It will need modification.

Another option is a enduro engineering riser raises the handlbar 5/8" up and forward 5/8" for $70.
But it is for 1/1/8" "fatbars" so you would have to get new 1 1/8" handlebars.

For all the above reasons I went with the $72 renthal CRF150R adult bend 7/8" handlbars.
They save weight over the stock steel bars and I could put on my personal favorite handgrips.

With a KTM EXC you will need handlebar risers or a taller handlebar like you would for any bike.
The KTM is taller and has a longer wheelbase, making it more difficult turning in technical tight woods.
So it depends on the type of riding you do and how much money you have to spend.
If you have a big budget, a newer KTMEXC may work for you.
If not a KDX is probably the better choice.

Guts racing has tall seat foam for most bikes if you decide to do a taller seat check them out
