Ok boys were getting somewhere!

Got the bike nice and warmed up and hit the little woods loop near my house.

You really only have enough room to wind out 1st and 2nd (stock gearing)

So I was in the zero-1/4 throttle range a lot and sure enough it pulled hard as hell!

I did a few laps to test it and at 1/4 throttle the bike ACTUALLY sounds like it's on the pipe finally!

Now when I went full throttle or really above 1/4 throttle it did not pull nearly as hard and would start to bog. It only pulled decent at full throttle when I had a ton of wheel spin, but it still didn't sound right or pull hard enough.

Pulling the carb off and checking the jet block gasket tomorrow, out of time for today.

Thanks for the help!

If it is passing gas ( pun intended ) it will always be rich.

To get it right you have to check everything.
We're your gaskets bad or not correctly seated?

Before you pull it apart do this test if you have a compressor. I've never been able to adjust like he did. If it had bubbles I replaced the jet block gasket. If no bubbles, then don't take it apart. Retest if you replace the gasket.

It sounds like rhe pilot jet is getting there. What's the air screw set at? Does it idle? When you say bogs do you mean like it's running out of gas or stuttering? One is lean, one is rich. It could just be time to move onto the needle clip adjustment, once 1/4 to 3/4 is clean, then onto the main jet. If your air screw isn't between 1-2.5 turns out with a clean idle then you're not there yet on the pilot.

Yeah, looks like someone may have tried to use a std Torx on it. Get the security Torx. I just took my carb to NAPA and matched it up.

I pulled the jet block off and it kind of appears that the gasket has shrunk some

It feels dried up and brittle too.

I have a bet jet block gasket that I'm going to install after work today and see if that fixes my problem.

Cleaned and repacked my silencer, cleaned and oiled air filter, and I'm going to clean my carb again before reassembling even though it's spotless.

Got a plug in there with less than an hour on it and a new one as a back up.

All keep y'all posted on what happens.

Update

Repacked silencer
Cleaned and oiled air filter
Brand new plug
Replaced Jet block Gasket
152 main jet/40 pilot jet/stock needle on 3rd clip

She's back!!! The bike now idles! But it does idle very low even with the idle screw turned all the way in and the air screw is out 3 turns.

The bike freaking moves!!!!!

Went riding at my buddy's property and on some trails/service roads near his house where I was really able to open her up.

2nd gear and on this thing is an animal! Just putting your weight back a little to where the tire will hook and the wheel is up in the air before it even hits power band. 3rd gear was coming up a little bit but I didn't try to hard as I'm fairly novice rider still.

Riding at sea level with decent humidity. Once it got into the evening the bike loved the cooler weather and really started ripping.
Couldn't keep the bike down in first or second gear lol.

I had a good bit of splooge on the back of my silencer after riding. I went for a quick ride yesterday on the pavement and it still seems to be breaking up some in 1st and sometimes at the bottom of second.

Could I really need to drop the pilot jet to a 38?

I've been reading people's jet combos and I rarely even see someone running a 40 pilot jet.

Thanks for the help so far guys, I had a blast this weekend and can't wait to hit the trails again!

The white and black KDX is my old 500$!!!

All update that thread with all the stuff
We've gone through and done to it.

96KDX Jetting help, Running rich

I would start looking at getting a different needle. The stock needle sucks IMO. I'm running a CEK needle (2nd clip) with 152/38 jetting and the throttle response is excellent throughout the range with no spooge.

Where can I get one of these CEK needles from? Thanks

Never mind I found them. Should I get any additional needles besides the CEK?

Very nice looking lime green and purple KDX!

You may want to check the chain tension.

No, the CEK is known to work well on KDX's. Your bike spends most of it's running time on the needle which could explain the spooge. Just be prepared that you might have to play with your jets again but I doubt it. Needles are cheap so try it and see how it does.

Thank you!

As far as chain tension do I need to go looser?

With the bike off the stand I can just barely fit 3 fingers right before the chain guard on the swing arm. All post a pic.
