crush copper washer moves pipe forward

Post by deepwoods »

like the title, new vs old washer moved the pipe 2 or 3 mm forward, muffler not closing totally against pipe like old flat/used copper crush washer, should I pound on the pipe with a rubber hammer or leave it alone?

I'd say just push it firmly in by hand and make sure the pipe mounts and springs are all adjusted properly.

thanks Jason, I didn't even have to push it in, there was enough of an outer diameter in the exhaust, just put some grease on it to make it stay when I mounted the fmf woods so that was not a issue. just the pipe sitting 2,3 mm forward annoyes me..

The gasket should crush down.

The copper ring will crush down over time .

I made my own aluminum rings out of 1/8" flat aluminum by drilling first with a 1 7/8" and second 2" hole saw. I can space the pipe out stock like the copper ring or 1/2" pretty quickly this way. Haven't noticed a difference in power or I would have made a big deal about it
