Tusk Spokes

Post by ericr »

I bought a couple Tusk rims for my '02 KDX200 that will have a '94 KX250 front hub. Tusk does not have any listings for this year KDX or KX for spokes.

Has anyone successfully used Tusk spokes?

After some searching including Pro-Wheel and Warp 9 sites, I have some cross references to Tusk spokes that I want to try.

Here's the OEM numbers;

95-06 KDX
Front - 44029-1206 228mmX165D
Rear - 41029-11989 189mmX160D

94-98 KX250
Front - 41029-1197 230mmX165D

Pro-wheel cross reference;
95-06 KDX
Front - KDX = KTM all years 21" wheel
Rear - KDX = 99-11 KX250 18"

KX Forum cross reference - https://tinyurl.com/y7blcfab
Front - 94-98 KX250 = 89-13 KX250

Tusk P/N's at Rocky Mtn.

95-06 KDX200/220
Front - (all KTM) 142028007 $46.99
Rear - 99-11 KX250 18" 142020016 $46.99

94-98 KX250
Front - 07 KX250 142028004 $46.99

If anyone has done this and can verify fitment, please let us know. Otherwise, I'm going to try it with my KDX rear and KX front hubs and will report.

Rmatv is usually very good about returns, buy the set, pull one spoke and compare length to what you have. I've used the tusk spokes and impact rims on other bikes and they have held up very well. Fronts should be the same length inner/outer, some rear spoke sets have a shorter inner spoke so look closely on lengths.

the tusk spoke nipples will have allen heads, which makes assembly very nice and you can torque to spec before the tire goes on.

On the front, 1999 KX is 29+7, not 36 like older KX / KDX. Lengths are different, too.

Call ask. Let them earn your Yuans.

I called them 3 times and spoke with 3 different reps. None of them can do any cross referencing by size. If they don't have a listing, you're on your own.

I ended up ordering with Buchanan. I was tired of screwing around with cross references. One phone call. 5 minutes. Done.
