Well I put the spare carb on with the same result. So that’s not it. I made sure the piston was at the bottom of its stroke and pressure tested again. It held the test. Guess I’ll try to pull the reed block so I can get a vac test on it. Grasping at straws here.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but in the interest of full disclosure and hopes no one else suffers through this I’m gonna fess up. Pretty sure the throttle cable was the culprit all along. One of my first moves in diagnosis was to remove it from the grip. Unfortunately I didn’t inspect under the cable dust protector. There the cable was damaged. I worked it strait and the idle came down. Finished for tonight but I think we can call this one solved. Thanks for all your help guys.

Hah! Always better to be wrong about a cheap part than right about an expensive one!

220 run away

Post by Molly's 70 »

My KDX runs great! However, I ordered a couple of these jet block gaskets just to have it on hand. I replaced mine anyway. I had never even heard about the jet block gasket. I'm old, worked on plenty of motorcycle carbs. I learn stuff here. Lots of good KDX stuff. Thanks to all!
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Hi, not sure if anyone mentioned that you need to replace the throttle cable with a stock one, not a aftermarket one! The aftermarket ones don't have the bend/carb boot to seal the cable at the top of the carb.

Glad you got it figured out! I know ran into problems before similar to that with the little white plastic piece on the spring not fitting into the groove in the slide correctly. Took me a minute to figure that super simple thing out too :boogie:

Motion Pro throttle cables have the flexible boot at the end just like the stock one.
