KDX 200 (2006) BOGS ON ACCELERATION...HELP

Post by kdx36 »

Ive had the bike for about a year ..serviced regularly no problems untill the other day it started leaking fuel so i tried to adjust the float but it kept leaking. so i put my dads float and needle in my carb. then the leaking stopped and the bike was running 100% till i ran out of fuel. the next day i got more fuel and fired it up. now it starts and idles fine but when i ride it and give a bit of fuel it bogs and dies (it also cant rev in neutral). ive cleaned the carb and adjusted the float level to give more fuel but still same thing. can someone please advise me how to fix it? thanks. Im from South Africa

Welcome to kdxrider.

Have you tried cleaning the float valve and seat?

Check to see if the the fuel petcock is intact. On my son's kdx, the strainer tube up inside the tank had corroded and snapped off, allowing bits of junk into the carb.

Set float back to stock height.

Do you have an inline filter in the fuel line to the carb? I'd instal one, you may have some crud in one of the jets. When does the bog occur? That is, how far open is the throttle when it happens? Just off idle? Or at/near WOT?

Thank you all for the response.

The petcock is intact.

Ive set the float to stock height.

I do have an inline filter... The carb jets and fuel passages are clean...

It bogs just off idle...

Thank you.

Does your dad have aKDX or did you just grab another flat valve from a different carb? If so, which carb?

If it does this after the bike sits and idles for a half minute or so I would suspect the jet block o-ring, when that o-ring goes bad it leaks excess fuel into the airflow, and the crankcase loads up with fuel so when you go to ride away the air fuel mixture going into the combustion chamber is very rich, but only briefly.

If this bog is just off idle everytime you come off idle while riding it's likely a "lean bog", as the bike used to run well and jetting hasn't changed I suspect a possible air leak between the carb and the crankcase.

Just a thought, with all the fuel problems, when was the last time you repacked or checked the packings in spark arrestor ,if applies to your bike. A clogged exhaust will cause you those problems and it's a simple check.

I cured my off idle bog with a jet block gasket and going leaner on the pilot jet.
My buddies jet block gasket went bad without warning ,just got way rich and we couldn't jet it out.
Hope that helps...
