got bar on/have a few questions about adjustment

i just put on my moose cr-hi bend bar.i have it centered but im trying to find what t position the bar should be in(front to back)the bar has markings onit starting w/0 then left to right it goes +/-1,2,3
i dont want them too far back.any ideas of what is recomended or is it just preference?

you just sit on the bike and move them till it feels good. Er... the bars that is.
