2006 KDX 200 11 hrs on Pick up Tuesday 9/5 Jetting for pc pi

Post by bmazz007 »

Great Find!! I found a 2006 KDX 200 MINT like brand new mint still has the original tires on it with full tred. 11 hrs. Original owner Only ridden once in a while around property . All stock. Long drive 4 hrs but worth it. Taking day off Tues to go get it leaving 5 am. I am in the process ordering some goodies.I think i am going to go with PC pipe but i cant find any thing on here for jetting for it. Sea level. Any way my story is i havent ridden off road in 17 years I am 50 years old in fantastic shape. I bought a 2007 Yz250f that was also mint but sold it I didnt like the touchiness for woods riding maybe its my age but i didnd feel secure or confident on that bike way to touchy. I use to have a brand new 2000 KDX rode i t a few times and we had our first son and the party ended. Fast forward 15 years to my other son Who i just got a ttr 230 for and he is so into it he dragged me back into it. So I am Getting this bike to ride with him The YzF didn't work for me but from what I remember I loved my KDX 200. And i feel like a kid again!! :supz: What do you recommend first thing I do I was going to change all fluids fork oil radiator fluid trans fluid what else?? Pipe is already in basket ..

Welcome. Sounds like an excellent score.
I would just spend a little time going over it for safety stuff. Check fluids & clean or replace air filter if it needed one.
Then I'd go see how good it runs. :supz:
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I'm impressed! He thinks 50 is actually "old". Service or check EVERYTHING you can think of on the bike, I mean EVERYTHING, bearings, etc. Then ride it. Nice that you're already thinking about mods but I would recommend spending money on the suspension first, motor second. Properly jetted, that bike has plenty of power stock. Suspension needs to be set to your weight/skill first.
Congrats on the new-to-you KDX.

I will change all the fluids take it for a ride I thing the fork springs are not going to cut it Thinking 40 may be the ticket for me for now. I will post pics when i get her leaving 5 am 4hr ride. all ready agreed in price. Sent video of bike running she purrs like a kitten. Wish i can post pics but cant..

Can't forget about this good ol thread for what to do with a new used KDX: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 77&t=12457

I would hold off too on ordering goodies until you started going over everything.

Congrats on the new bike tho! I would love to have nice clean one that hasn't been messed it. Since you say its a mother-load, I'm curious about the price.... mind sharing what you paid? :hmm:

I swear this bike looks like it was in the showroom not a scratch on it. 2006 200 she is a beauty!! I was trying not to build my hopes up in the pics it looked super clean! When i saw her in person I almost shat myself it was that clean.I have not been that excited about a purchase since i bought my first condom. Im am going to change gear oil 10/40 semi syn? Even though it is still golden color. Fork oil 15w and .40 springs? i am 5/10 200 very god shape for a man my age. Ridden alot when younger been away since 2000. Stock tires are like new but i am considering replacing? Mods will be pc pipe and airbox for now. jetting stock or 160 /48 sea level ? Some say no need to jet with pipe seeing that it is pig rich. I went around and tighten some bolts only a few were slightly lose. What are your thought ?

Here is another clean one but a little older than I wanted https://binghamton.craigslist.org/mcy/d ... 96847.html

Did you get it? It sounds like it. Congratulations.

Stock fork oil is 5 wt.

You are 200 in full gear?

Besides making it pretty, if you haven't ridden in 17 years, why the rudh on the pipe?

I suggest you buy a service manual.

The tires were made in spring 05, so 12 + year old tires may not flex or last like frrsh tires.

I did get it left 500 am 4 hrs one way..
Gear I am about 210 215
It has nothing mid and top does not rev at all. low end torq is ok I took snorkel off.
would any H manual do ? Od for my year better off H 12 i believe.
maybe I will just use these tires for a bit see how they do in the woods.
The PC pipe looks like its getting harder to get I guess they aren't making them any more. I had one on my 99 KDX 200 Night and day. From what remember better all over. seams to be alot of fmf but i think i prefer PC because of my experience with it I dont need much more low end torq the woods pipe from fmf maybe a little to torqy for my liking

You may want to look into .42 springs and a 5.2 for the rear.

I would also suggest some waterproof grease for the swingarm, steering, linkage bearings. You may also want to look into fresh shock oil. The shock nitrogen pressure will not be fully within spec after 12 years, even if new on the box.

The service manual is much better.

You may want to put the shock oil change on the "over the winter" list if you have a winter. It should be OK for a while, but consider it normal maintenance.

And chain oil, too. :bravo:

We have a winter. I hate winter. I use to love it I was a huge snowmobiler. I think what ill do is grease the rear linkage now. Change gear oil now. Maybe clean up the jetting for stock pipe and airbox lid removal any suggestions on jetting? 150 Main 45 pilot?? basically i am sea level to maybe 500 ft..

Winter change fork oil, springs to heavier, Grease headset bearings. Maybe rearshock recharge I have to look into that. If someone local does it I will just take it out and bring it down. if i have to sent it out i will do over winter. Than maybe install pipe and can over winter. I will order pipe just so i have it. Thoughts?

The first thing I bought for my '01 KDX was a service manual. It has been invaluable.

Congrats on picking up the showroom condition bike! It likely needs to be jetted but I would do it after taking it out for at least one hard ride first with fresh fuel and a new plug. You ever notice how sometimes an old bike that's barely used gets better just by wringing it out for a little while? Like the engine somehow forgot how it was supposed to run after sitting around so long :-).
