shock oil

Post by firsthere »

If I may jump in. What is the shock oil weight on a H model? Going to do a fluid change this winter.

EDIT: Splitting and editing done by, Jason

Shock oil weight is 5, but some go with 3. Look for Kayaba K2-C or equivalent.

Usually done through the compression port as my 650R KYB shock, using Maxima 3w shock fluid?

Thanks.

You're not taking it apart to check wear?

Normally you disassemble to refill, per the service manual. Gives you the opportunity to properly fill it and avoid trapping a big air bubble in the reservoir, inspect the bladder, recharge the nitrogen.

If anyone is looking to take the compression adjuster assembly out, read up on drilling out the peens.

shock oil

Still on the third rear tire so internals should be in good shape, will check the appearance of the factory oil and pressure to decide how far to go. You do have a point about the bladder though, ended up replacing one when re-valving the Honda shock.

Are you saying you have gone through 3 tires, but have not changed the oil?

Well two, and a new one currently on back. The XR's fluid was clean (while on the fourth tire) so kinda based it on that.
