go to race-tech, Inda put them in the LINKS. that rate sounds close. I am 185 w/o gear (or as CC would say, nekkid) and race-tech put me on .44's

Race tech does tend to be on the high side of spring rate recs. Their .44 rec in my case didn't suit me at all. Neither did .42s or .40s.

.38s did fine, though.

That's anecdotal input that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with you.

You honestly won't know until you ride with 'em. The rate that fits you depends largely on your weight, yes...and largely on other factors, too. Expect .45s to be plenty stiff!

A 5wt fork oil would work fine, probably. Any thicker than that....and .45s..that's getting pretty darn hard.

Spring installation isn't hard..but neither is thoracic surgery to someone that knows what he's doing.

Take a look at this (for one):

A BTW...I suspect RaceTech's recs to be based on using their valving, too. I've ridden an RT setup before...it was very very nice!! Yummy!!

Good luck!!

Try FRP for the springs. I started with .42's and they beat me to death. I returned them for .40's, no charge. Can't beat that with a stick.

BTW I am 210 lbs with gear.

Correction: I posted for what the '01 USD forks have, not the KDX forks. KDX has .38 kg's

I use Eibach .43kg XR400 springs with 3mm of preload and I weigh in at around 230lbs "nekkid". I use 7.5wt fork oil with a very light high speed compression setup on my Gold Valves. My low speed compression and rebound are middle of the road. I would not want to go any stiffer than this on my fork setup.
