Broken KIPS Gear...really that bad?

Post by MaineKDX »

So I tackled cleaning the top end and KIPS Tonight. It went well with only one instance of friendly fire...the left side KIPS gear broke a tooth. That nut was torqued with the anger of a thousand suns...someone was having a bad day in Japan when they put this together. I thought when it broke free it didnt feel right. Well out falls a tooth. I go to ebay and find a new gear is $80+!!! :butthead:

So after the big clean, lube and reassembly I get to the dreaded gear. I threw it back on and...it works. I don't want to cut corners and risk future problems but I think it will work just fine? Am I ok to save my beer money for...beer? Or am I tempting fate. :hmm:

Looks like I should be good. Apparently I'm not the only one.

I broke that same gear tooth.... but spent the money and got the new gear. But I heard afterwards that it will work fine even missing that one tooth.

Is that H-series specific? Why use general q&a an not H-series topic? might get better response - http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=86
