fork oil

Post by TheMightyMash »

Does anyone know what type and amount of oil to put in the forks? I am new here and have recently acquired my first kdx200e but I currently have no workshop manual. Thank youvery much. :drinkers:

Hello. Welcome to kdxrider. Congratulations on your KDX. What year is it? If it has conventional forks, then it is 10 weight fork oil. If it had upside down forks, then it is five weight.

Jason - did you perhaps reverse those oil weights? On my 1997 KDX220 with conventional forks, the cyclepedia says use 5wt oil, filled 85-89mm from top

I recommend 10 wt with stock springs, no matter what forks you have, and 7 wt with properly weighted springs....by that's just me..

He stated kdx200e.

I am assuming he has a 1989 - 1994 model. If only I had a dollar for every person that asked about "my bike" and "my KDX".

What year, what country, what else to do??

Jason is correct, the stock oil for the E-models is 10wt for the conventional and 5 wt for the USD. 467-475ml (or 78-82 mm) on the USD and 614-622 ml (or 138-142 mm) on the conventionals. FWIW the stock recommendation for the H-models is also 5 wt (KYB01)

Thank you for your replies. It's a 93 E model wearing conventional rwu forks.
