Just got back from riding about 500 miles at Hatfield/McCoy trails. Bike didn't skip a beat. Very happy with this bike after getting a new stator from Rick's in NH.
I did something I rarely do. I checked all the spokes to see if any were loose. Back wheel was fine. Front wheel had like 8 loose spokes. They all tightened up fine. Except for one of course.
The spoke won't tighten and I can move it up and down in the hole. I assume whatever it screwed into broke or fell into the wheel.
How concerned should I be about this? Is it safe to ride or must it be fixed right away?
The front tire is new and I hate to have to remove it just to fix one spoke.
The true on the wheel is fine , it spins straight.
Can I get a few more rides or must I fix it? The trails just opened and I want to ride today.
Thanks Mike

You'll be fine for a few. Go ahead and order a replacement and have it ready for your next tire change.

Re: Broken spoke
Just one you can ride it. If you're concerned you can run a ziptie around the broken spoke and one of the ones it crosses to help keep it in place.

Had good results with boiling them up, far better than direct heat. Big old roasting tin on the hob with nipple end cooking away should loosen it up.

Re: Broken spoke
So there is a nipple on it? If there is no nipple you need to get the spoke off the wheel to avoid it puncturing your tube. If there is a nipple, but the bottom is broke, then zip tie it off until your next tire change, or......Use vice grips to hold the spoke while you loosen the nipple, and remove the whole spoke. I'm assuming that one spoke is no good, so cutting it off is an option.

Re: Broken spoke
If you have a lose spoke nipple inside the wheel, I would have that removed.
