When I bought my 95 kdx 200 the guy only had it for 2 weeks he bought it to do a hare scramble race (he is a 450 mx-er) SAID HE WENT OVER EVERYTHING (I found a burned reed) he said it was in a neighbors shed for quite some time. He installed new tires, brakes bars, levers cleaned the carb and normal fluid maintenance. I took the bike out for a extended ride all went well. The guy said it had a 240 kit installed but when i pulled the carb down to re-jet it had a 160 main and 48 pilot plus was running very rich (air screw turned out 6-7 turns to idle right) how could it have stock jets with a 240 kit and still run rich. My question is is there any way to tell if its been bored?
Second question it has a fatty pipe, turbine core 2 muffler, going to have 607 Boyesen power reeds, twin air filter, and no snorkle, (weekend install plans) ride between 300 and 3000 feet 60-90 degrees where is a good jet starting point? This is all new to me I am use to FI atvs. Training Wheels Right. Any and all help would be appreciated. PS should I drill the air box lid or leave it alone?

How to tell if it's been bored? Pull the cylinder and grab a mic. Compare the measurement to the OE specs.
The usual jetting advise is usually around 155/45 and working the jetting guide from there.
Air box lid...I say just remove it. No reason to destroy it by drilling and you can always put it back later if you need or want to.

Good advice fron G22inSC. IIRC, the 240 kits actually have to be jetted smaller than a 200 due to the larger bore which creates additional vacuum on the carb. I would probably start in the 152-155 range for the main, 42-45 on the pilot, and follow the jetting guide to dial it in.

Looks like you've only ridden it with the bad reed, correct? Your jetting might be fine once you get the 607's installed. That reed would have caused it to act really rich. Once you install the reed make sure you bring the air screw back in from 6-7 turns out (falling out) to 1 1/2 out to start.

Wow guess I am a newbie I thought the bigger the bore the more fuel needed. thanks for the info guys gives me a good starting point.
As for the reed it only had a small pencil eraser size hole in one corner how much problems would that cause for fuel mixture?
