Is the KDX tractor like?

Hi guys I am thinking of purchasing a kdx 200 and was wondering how much torque they have low down. I have come off a YZ125 which has no bottom end what so ever. I would just like to know if it's like a 4t in anyway? Sorry if this is a dumb or obvious question for some. Are there any bikes that could be compared to it such as the WR200 or KTM 200?

The KDX is about the definition of a tractor, lol.... they've got a ton of bottom end torque. Pretty much all the power is down at the bottom and mid.... top gets a little flat. Powerband is very smooth and linear, almost like a 4t.... nice smooth, controllable, useable power. That's why the KDX is such a killer woods bike

I have the 220 and there is a ton of low end power and somewhat flat on the top end. After sending the carb and head to RB it is hard to even stall the bike.

But don't the 220's have more torque?

The 220 is a low-mid range tank. Smooth, linear useable power from idle on up. Fantastic. Nothing better in the 2 stroke world IMHO. It's not a 4 stroke, no real engine braking... but if you like torquey smooth power delivery from a 2 stroke, this is the bike!

I prefer the 200. Compared to a 125, the KDX is absolutely a tractor, a tank even. With mods, either the 200 or 220 can be an absolute beast of a woods bike.

Very good low end, not as good as my CRF230 4 stroke but that bike has some other issues.

Would having a pro circuit platinum pipe give more top end or bottom?

Pro circuit platinum gives more power to low and top end. FMF woods pipe give more low end.

The kdx is impressive i just rode this weekend with mine which i always was happy with the power and ability to keep pulling at low rpms, but this weekend i was shocked to see a guy about 275 putting up unbelievably steep hillclimbs with no problems never seen a two stroke do the things this guy was pulling off, i prefer to go a little faster but was cool to see..

Considering a Pro circuit also, stock is ok but giving up some top end for sure, let us know how it works.

KDX200. My goal is max low end for the very tight, steep, 1st gear stuff around here. I'm actually running a 12t sprocket to avoid stalling out. Also dealing with neighbors and unfriendly hikers looking to take away the trails so being quiet is top priority.

Considering the Pro Circuit Platinum II to add low end and some additional top end as a bonus.

If being quiet is the top priority, then the stock pipe is a quieter option. Aftermarket pipes will allow more noise to get through than the stock exhaust pipe. Yes. I am talking about the pipe, not the spark arrestor.

The FMF Woods pipe is the pipe you'll want for bottom end power. Keep the stock silencer to keep noise to a minimum. As Jason said, the after market pipes will be louder.
Also consider using a larger rear sprocket. A carb from a 220 will help with bottom end as well.

Low end torque on my 200 was a major (and satisfying) surprise. I'm 6'3" 255lb and I chug a long in 2nd or 3rd often with very little throttle input and this thing pulls like a mule. I have a tough time holding on sometimes as it pulls harder up a hill than I expect it too! Anyone make a seat belt for this thing???

Thank you all for your help! After reading all this I have decided to start looking seriously for KDX's. I have found one for $800. The only problem is that it doesn't produce a spark and the owner cant figure out why. Other than that, it looks in very good condition. Does any one have a wiring diagram for it? A 2000 KDX 200 Australian model? Also, what gearing are you running it at?
