Loctite 518
Just ordered a tube of Loctite 518 gasket maker. Has anyone used the product instead of a gasket?

Re: Loctite 518
I have used it in conjunction with a gasket when reusing the gasket. If both surfaces are clean and perfectly machined, it works well, as long as you don't need the added clearance of a gasket. Never hardens so it makes disassembly easier toopatreilly wrote:Just ordered a tube of Loctite 518 gasket maker. Has anyone used the product instead of a gasket?

David, Thanks. Forgot about the extra clearance a gasket gives.

I also use it to hold gaskets in place during assembly. Like the copper gasket between the head and exhaust pipe, and reed valve cage gasket. It only takes a little because it's so thick
