1998 Kawasaki KDX 220 Fuel/oil mix

Post by Negguy »

Just purchased this bike. Forgot to ask what mixture he used. Will be riding in tight woods with a little bit of open hydro road. Will 40:1 be good?

I use 50:1 amsoil 2 stroke oil. 40:1 will also be good just use a good quality synthetic 2 stroke oil.

40:1 is good.... You may have to re-jet if it's different from what he was using before. But just pick a ratio and jet accordingly for that

I read somewhere that different brands of oil mixed together can sludge up. Safest bet would be to drain tank and start fresh with whatever mix you choose and stick with that. I am at 45:1 with golden spectro in my 220.

I haven't added any fuel yet. I am going to be using Amsoil Interceptor.

I use 32:1 on all my 2 strokes and they all run fine.

For 35 years + I have used AMSOIL Saber premix at 100 to 1 in every application you can name. I swear by it.

32:1 Shell VSX2 synthetic. Woods rides with some fast long fire trail sections ( top gear pinned) bores coped the top end last week, can still read piston crown numbers, compression still 170psi. Approx 150 hrs.

Welcome to KDXRIDER. The standard Kawasaki fuel/oil mix recommendation is 32/1.

It is strongly recommended that you get an Owner's Manual and a Service Manual. For the Owner's Manual, a little searching here on this site should provide a link allowing you to download a copy. Your local Kawasaki dealer could also email you a copy.

A Service Manual is your best friend. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about this bike. Typically these are for the H Series 200s, but a little online searching will provide the supplement for the 220. This site has a link for an online version.

Question: Do you know what piston is in your bike? Stock 220 pistons have a reputation for breaking apart and ruining your day, and your engine too. Aftermarket forged pistons are recommended. These are available from Wiseco and Woosner, and maybe others too.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. Pick a ratio, pick an oil, pick an octane. Then jet for that combo and don't change it.

And you don't NEED to run synthetic oil of premium fuel in a stock kdx. I like dino oil, but it is getting hard to find anymore. I run premium only to loose the crap corn fuel, corn is for whiskey, not cars.[GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
