New Carb for 220R @6000 feet

Post by Calibrit »

So, I need to buy a new carb, finally diagnosed mine as bad.

I used to live in the San Francisco bay area but now live in Idaho.

Given I live up at 6000 feet and would ride up from there I am wondering is buying the 35mm 200 carb makes more sense than the 33mm 220 to get a bit more air in there.

That would also give me the option of the air striker?

Does that make sense or should I just get the stock 33mm.

For info I have a performance pipe and the airbox open.

A 35mm Air Striker should give you all the performance you need. It has been done on plenty of 220s that run at lower elevations. The only time I get to 6000 feet or above is after the plane has taken off so I have no real world experience to back this up.

What's wrong with your carb that it's beyond repair?

I am also curious at what could go wrong with a carb that makes it not repairable. My RB modded card worked great at 8,000 elevation.

Was your needle jet out of round making yours not repairable? I've seen that on a pwk 36 before. I would go with the 35 over the 33. I put a 35 air striker on my 220 and really like the upgrade. No noticeable drop in low end power and very noticeable gain in top end power. I'm sure I would've been happy with the non air striker 35 but the difference is $10 so I went with the AS.

Jets R Us is a good source for them. $176 for 35 and $186 for the 35 air striker with quick free shipping. You'll need to jet either one for your bike and elevation. I would email or call first to check stock. I ordered a 38 air striker from them and didn't know it was out of stock until a few days later when they emailed.

I wish I knew, it runs pig rich even with the smallest available pilot and main jets.

Have tried different slide, replaced jet block o-ring, replaced jets, replaced needle etc.

Messed with it for 6 months with no improvement.

I am sure there is something that it is up but for the life of me I can't find it.

Grabbed the carb of my friends identical bike and it runs lime a charm.

So I am just done with this one and a new carb is to save my sanity.
