2005 KDX220 W/240cc big bore...72mm piston HELP

Post by tclingan »

I bought my 2005 KDX 220 about a year ago, time for a new top-end. Did not know but discovered a 240cc Big Bore Kit and need a 72 mm piston. Looking for help??? Before anyone recommends Eric Gore or La sleeve I have spoken to both of them. La sleeve says they do not have any in stock in fact do not have 72mm 72.5mm or 73mm. They will no longer be making them here or in Germany. Other than buy new cylinder I figure my only option would be to go to a 73 mm piston Emboar out the cylinder another mm.

Really just looking for any suggestions or possibly have a line on a 72 mm or 73 mm piston. Another question I have is I am still looking for 72 or 73 MM piston to no avail but I found a 73mm piston for a KDX 200, wouldI I be able to use that and my 220.

Thank you in advance for suugeestion.

2005 KDX220 W/240cc big bore...72mm piston HELP

Post by pumpguy »

Can you find anyone that can supply a 72mm sleeve for a 4 stroke engine that's long enough for your cylinder? If yes, you can make a port map and transfer that to the plain sleeve, cutting out the ports to match.

As an alternate, and maybe a better plan, ask Millennium or the plater of your choice, if they can bore and plate your cylinder to match this piston.

Also, be advised that you will also need to rework the main KIPS valve for use with the bigger piston. But you probably already know that.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Edit: Sorry, Thought you already had the big piston. I would ask Millennium to see if they could also supply the bigger piston.

Kustom Kraft and RPM both still make big bore kits last I checked, they will run you upwards of $600. I believe they both can do plated cylinders up to 230cc and sleeved to 240.

Did ya look in the for-sale section of this forum? http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 69&t=21470

Also, I saw a couple H-series 200 cylinders on eBay (Didn't see any 220 ones specifically). You can use a 200 cylinder either with a 200 piston in it, or send it out with the power valves and have it bored for a 220 piston and use that with it.

RPM Manufacturing
Kustom Kraft

I have no experience with either one of them. IIWM I'd drop all that green on a new replate, Wiseco piston, new pipe, reeds, RB head and carb work, full bike bearing refresh, suspension upgrades and still have money left over for a trip through the local Arbys  But I'm just weird that way.

What did you wind up doing? I just bought a 1990 KDX200 with a 240 big bore kit (did not know this until I got it home and measured it). I am also searching for a piston that will fit or a used cylinder.
