Hello.
Has anyone ever tried to mount an '89 KX 250 tank on a '89-96' KDX. I'd like to try a thinner look on my 200 ... The frame appears quite similar on the pics.

I assume you meant 1989 - 1994.
If you look on the IMS or Clarke sites, they show the same model for KX500 (1988 - 2004 and KX250 (1988 - 89). Maybe that will help on shopping if you try to bite the bullet and but / test fit one. I am curious about this also.
I remember something about Dirt Bike magazine mentioning use of MAYBE a KDX tank on a KX250 or KX500. There may have been something about seat fit. I am old, and that magazine is too.

I meant 89/94 !
I think that seats and tanks fit together ... I'll take a look at the Clarke site, that's a good idea ...

Re: 250 KX tank on a 200KDX
OK, as I give it just a little thought, perhaps we E people can brainstorm together....
tank might attach to frame but then what... shrouds mount to tank (shrouds are different)
radiator mount to shrouds (isn't one radiator the same and one is different??)
Would we be looking at welding up a rad mount to the frame??
hose routing run into frame or other parts? / openings at impossible to route locations or require new hoses and routing?
bottom of tank hit top of engine??
NO reserve on a KX tank, just on or off, so no hole for the KDX petcock (can it be drilled out and used with KDX parts or just go with KX petcock?
petcock get in the way of any KDX parts??
MANY QUESTIONS, one way to find out.

Re: 250 KX tank on a 200KDX
I think i might have a few answers quite soon because someone on a french forum had this same idea and is rebuilding a KDXe with a KX 250 tank. It appears that he'll have to make a special mount to adapt the KX shrouds to the KDX radiator but he didn't mention any problem with the petcock so far ... I'll let you know !
